Waking leisurely, we had an American buffet style breakfast together and made plans to see the big arch in Tacna, which we then journeyed to. On the way back to one of our favorite shopping places we affectionately call 28 (short for Julio Vienteocho – or July 28) most of us stopped for some ice cream at one of Brian’s favorite ice cream shops. After shopping at 28 we walked back to the hotel and checked out. Nick, who had been sick since early that morning and had stayed at the hotel, was not feeling any better. The rest of us went to lunch at another one of Brian’s favorite places while Mark went with Tito and Patty and took Nick to see the doctor. Mark met up with us again back at Ciudad Nueva where we were trying to finish packing and cleaning, getting ready for our flight at 8:45 that night. We had our last “once” with the church workers there, sharing cake and juice. Mark gave us the update on Nick and we spent some time in prayer for him. Gathering together in a bus, we had several of the church leaders accompany us to the airport! On the way we prayed for Nick again as he was still at the doctor’s. Getting out of Tacna was a very organized event, and just as we were finishing up all the tickets and paperwork for the team, Tito, Patty and Mark arrived with Nick, much to the relief of all. We said our last goodbyes, some of us crying, and we were the last people to board the plane. The flight was about 90 minutes long, which gave us enough time to get situated in Lima before our next flight at 1:05AM. Mark and Phil saw us into the airport as far as they could go – they had to stay behind to take care of Phil’s passport at the Embassy the next morning, hopefully getting on a flight the next evening to be home by Saturday.
