We split into three teams to do some construction. This consisted of demolition of existing cement block walls, mixing concrete, building walls, sanding rust off iron beams, carrying walls, putting up walls, and another grab bag of physically laborious chores. Late that afternoon, after our first big lunch with all those working in construction, we meet up with a few of the “gringo” missionaries here who organize time to speak with North Americans at the local college, CEID (see Matt D. for what the letters actually stand for). This gives them a chance to practice their English and us a chance to put in a plug for Culto.com and Jesus Christ. Here they aren’t as squeamish about the separation of church and state – most people here call themselves Catholic though not that many actually practice their religion. We met again that evening for our small evening meal and a time of worship and sharing.
