Sundays consist of two services: one in the morning at the main church in Tacna Central and one in the afternoon at the Ciudad Nueva location. They recognized us at both services and we experienced the very warm and loving church here firsthand. Mark got to preach which didn’t mean much for most of us who cannot understand more than a few words of Spanish. Between services we went to lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, El Pollon (AKA Super Chicken), with Tito and Patty’s family, other missionaries and workers from the church. Mark promised we’d go on Friday…but considering we were forced to have lunch at the Sheraton, I don’t think too many of us were upset that we had to take a rain check. Besides it was a lot more fun having lunch with everyone instead of just us. That night, during the second service Mark decided we should help out with the children’s Sunday school classes. Later that evening we were going to play soccer, but considering that most of us were trying to keep ourselves from falling asleep during the prayer time and the actual service, we opted to have some praise and sharing time together before going to bed. This was received well – we wanted to be in our best physical condition for the Peruvians and Chileans to kick our behinds in football (soccer).
